Description
A tasbeeh, also known as misbaha or prayer beads, is a string of beads used by Muslims to keep track of their recitation of certain prayers or phrases. It is a tool for counting and focusing during the remembrance of Allah (God) or other forms of devotion.
Tasbeeh beads typically consist of 99 or 33 beads, although variations with different numbers can also be found. The beads can be made from various materials such as wood, gemstones, glass, or plastic. At one end of the string, there is often a larger bead or a tassel called an imam, which helps indicate the starting point.
Muslims use the tasbeeh for various purposes, including the recitation of certain phrases or prayers such as the glorification of Allah (SubhanAllah), the praise of Allah (Alhamdulillah), and the remembrance of Allah (Allahu Akbar). The beads are held between the fingers, and each bead is passed through the fingers as the person recites the chosen phrase or prayer. This repetitive action helps in focusing the mind and increasing mindfulness during the recitation.
Tasbeehs are commonly carried by Muslims for personal use, especially during prayer, dhikr (remembrance of Allah), or other acts of devotion. They are also given as gifts and are considered a symbol of spirituality and devotion within the Islamic faith.
